As of the 1st October of 2012 Ukraine's 
                    population was estimated at 45559,2 thsd. persons. During 
                    January-September 2012 the population decreased by 74,4 thsd. 
                    people, that amounted to 2,2 persons per 1000 population. 
                    At the same time a natural increase of the population was 
                    registered in ten regions of Ukraine: Sevastopol, the city 
                    of Kyiv, Rivne, Zakarpattya, Kyiv, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivs'k, 
                    Chernivtsi, Odesa and Autonomous Republic of Crimea (from 
                    4,9-0,5 persons per 1000 population). 
                   
                  
                      The population decline by was exclusively 
                    due to natural decrease –104,8 thsd. persons, at the same 
                    time the migration gain – 30,4 thsd. persons was registered. 
                      In comparison with January-September of 
                    2011 the volume of a natural decrease reduced by 20,7 thsd. 
                    persons, or from 3,7 to 3,1 persons per 1000 population. A 
                    natural decrease of the population was registered in the 21 
                    Ukraine`s regions, but only in the city of Kyiv, Rivne, Zakarpattya, 
                    Volyn, Ivano-Frankivs'k and Chernivtsi regions a natural increase 
                    of the population (4455, 3228, 3004, 1331, 356 and 302 persons) 
                    was registered.                     A significant surplus 
                    of the number of deaths over the number of live birth remains:

                       At the same time the birth rate increase 
                    of from 10,9 persons per 1000 population in January-September 
                    of 2011 to 11.4 in January-September of 2012. 
                        There was a significant difference in the birth rate between 
                    Ukraine's regions: from 9,4‰ in Chernihiv region to 16,0 in

                      In January-September 2012 there were registered 
                    2479 cases of dead births, that is by 93 cases more compared 
                    to the corresponding period of the preceding year. The number 
                    of infant deaths under 1 year of age decreased from 9,1 to 
                    8,6 cases (per 1000 live births) and constituted 3312 persons. 
                   
                       The leading causes of infant 
                    death under 1 year of age were: certain conditions arising 
                    in the perinatal period; congenital malformations, deformations 
                    and chromosomal abnormalities (congenital abnormalities); 
                    external death causes; some infectious and parasitic diseases; 
                    diseases of the nervous system; diseases of the respiratory 
                    system. There remains a significant part of infants (4,3%)

                  Among those who arrived in Ukraine during January-September 
                    of 2012 the immigrants from the CIS countries constituted 
                    54,4 %, from other countries - 45,6%. Among those who left 
                    Ukraine 43,6 % moved to the CIS countries and 56,4% - to other 
                    countries.
