As of the 1st September of 2012 Ukraine's population 
        was estimated at 45559,1 thsd. persons. During January-August 2012 the 
        population decreased by 74,6 thsd. people, that amounted to 2,4 persons 
        per 1000 population. At the same time a natural increase of the population 
        was registered in eight regions of Ukraine: Volyn, Kyiv, ,Rivne, Zakarpattya, 
        Sevastopol, Ivano-Frankivs'k and Autonomous Republic of Crimea (from 37-0,5 
        persons per 1000 population). 
       
                  
          The population decline by was exclusively due to natural 
        decrease –100,8 thsd. persons, at the same time the migration gain – 26,2 
        thsd. persons was registered. 
          In comparison with January-August of 2011 the volume 
        of a natural decrease reduced by 20,7 thsd. persons, or from 4,0 to 3,3 
        persons per 1000 population. A natural decrease of the population was 
        registered in the 22Ukraine`s regions, but only in the city of Kyiv, Rivne, 
        Zakarpattya, Volyn and Chernivtsi regions a natural increase of the population 
        (3665, 2692, 2297, 1132 and 156 persons) was registered.  
             A significant surplus of the number 
        of deaths over the number of live birth remains: 100 deaths per 77 live

           At the same time the birth rate increase of from 
        10,7 persons per 1000 population in January-August of 2011 to 11.4 in 
        January-August of 2012. 
      There was a significant difference in the birth rate between Ukraine's 
        regions: from 9,4‰ in Chernihiv region to 16,0 in Rivne region that reflect

      The death rate decreased from 14,7 ‰ in January-August of 2011 and 14,7 
        - in January-August of 2012. The heighest death rate was registered in

              In January-August 2012 there were registered 
        2229 cases of dead births, that is by 134 cases more compared to the corresponding 
        period of the preceding year. The number of infant deaths under 1 year 
        of age decreased from 9,1 to 8,7 cases (per 1000 live births) and constituted 
        2957 persons.  
         
             The leading causes of infant death under 
        1 year of age were: certain conditions arising in the perinatal period; 
        congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal abnormalities (congenital 
        abnormalities); external death causes; some infectious and parasitic diseases; 
        diseases of the nervous system; diseases of the respiratory system. There 
        remains a significant part of infants (4,2%) whose death cause was not 
        determined by medical personnel.

      Among those who arrived in Ukraine during January-August of 2012 the 
        immigrants from the CIS countries constituted 54,6%, from other countries 
        - 45,4%. Among those who left Ukraine 43,7 % moved to the CIS countries 
        and 56,3% - to other countries.
