As of the 1st June of 2012 Ukraine's population
was estimated at 45565,9 thsd. persons. During January-May
l 2012 the population decreased by 67,7 thsd. people, that
amounted to 3,6 persons per 1000 population. At the same time
a natural increase of the population was registered in six
regions of Ukraine: Zakarpattya,Volyn, Kyiv, Rivne, ñity of
Kyiv and Sevastopol (from 2,5 to 1,4 persons per 1000 population).
The population decline by was exclusively
due to natural decrease –81,8 thsd. persons, at the same time
the migration gain – 14,1 thsd. persons was registered.
In comparison with January-May l of 2011
the volume of a natural decrease reduced by 16,6 thsd. persons,
or from 5,2 to 4,3 persons per 1000 population. A natural
decrease of the population was registered in the 23 Ukraine`s
regions, but only in the city of Kyiv, Rivne, Zakarpattya,
and Volyn regions a natural increase of the population (1387,
1079, 919 and 211 persons) was registered.
A natural movement of
the population in January-May l 2012 was characterized by
the increase of birth and decrease death rates. .A significant
surplus of the number of deaths over the number of live birth
remains: 100 deaths per 72 live births.

There was a significant difference
in the birth rate between Ukraine's regions: from 9,2‰ in Chernihiv
region to 15,3 in Rivne region that reflect the data in the
table below.

The death rate decreased from 15,5 ‰ in January-May of 2011
to 15,3 - in January-May of 2012. The heighest death rate
was registered in Chernihiv region (19,5‰), the lowest - in
the city of Kyiv (10,2‰).

In January-Mayl 2012 there were
registered 1324 cases of dead births, that is by 100 cases more
compared to the corresponding period of the preceding year.
The number of infant deaths under 1 year of age deacreased by
6 cases and constituted 1839 persons.
The leading causes of infant death
under 1 year of age were: certain conditions arising in the
perinatal period; congenital malformations, deformations and
chromosomal abnormalities (congenital abnormalities); external
death causes; some infectious and parasitic diseases; diseases
of the nervous system; diseases of the respiratory system. There
remains a significant part of infants (4,2%) whose death cause
was not determined by medical personnel.

Among those who arrived in Ukraine during
January-May of 2012 the immigrants from the CIS countries constituted
60,1%, from other countries - 39,9%. Among those who left Ukraine
43,4 % moved to the CIS countries and 56,6% - to other countries
