As of the 1st May of 2012 Ukraine's population
was estimated at 45573,6 thsd. persons. During January-April
2012 the population decreased by 60,0 thsd. people, that amounted
to 4,0 persons per 1000 population. At the same time a natural
increase of the population was registered in six regions of
Ukraine: Zakarpattya,Volyn, Kyiv, Rivne, ñity of Kyiv and
Sevastopol (from 3,0 to 0,7 persons per 1000 population).
The population decline by was exclusively
due to natural decrease – 69,0 thsd. persons, at the same
time the migration gain – 9,0 thsd. persons was registered.
In comparison with January-April of 2011
the volume of a natural decrease reduced by 8,8 thsd. persons,
or from 5,1 to 4,6 persons per 1000 population. A natural
decrease of the population was registered in the 23 Ukraine`s
regions, but only in the city of Kyiv, Rivne, Zakarpattya,
and Volyn regions a natural increase of the population (985,
686, 587 and 105 persons, respectively) was registered.
A natural movement of
the population in January-April 2012 was characterized by
the increase of birth and decrease death rates.A significant
surplus of the number of deaths over the number of live birth
remains: 100 deaths per 70 live births.

There was a significant difference
in the birth rate between Ukraine's regions: from 9,1‰ in Kharkiv
and Chernihiv region to 15,0 in Rivne region that reflect the
data in the table below.

The death rate decreased from 15,6 ‰ in January-April of
2011 to 15,5 - in January-April of 2012. The heighest death
rate was registered in Chernihiv region (19,6‰), the lowest
- in the city of Kyiv (9,3‰).

In January-April 2012 there
were registered 1023 cases of dead births, that is by 49cases
less compared to the corresponding period of the preceding year.
The number of infant deaths under 1 year of age deacreased by
6 cases and constituted 1444 persons.
The leading causes of infant death
under 1 year of age were: certain conditions arising in the
perinatal period; congenital malformations, deformations and
chromosomal abnormalities (congenital abnormalities); external
death causes; some infectious and parasitic diseases; diseases
of the nervous system; diseases of the respiratory system. There
remains a significant part of infants (4,3%) whose death cause
was not determined by medical personnel.

Among those who arrived in Ukraine during
January-April of 2012 the immigrants from the CIS countries
constituted 66,2%, from other countries - 33,8%. Among those
who left Ukraine 44,8 % moved to the CIS countries and 55,2%
- to other countries
